Suggested Letter to your US Representative and Senators

Congresswoman Ross,

I am writing because I am deeply alarmed by what is happening in our country — and by the lack of visible, forceful response from Congress. Many Americans are no longer just concerned; we are afraid.

We are witnessing repeated violations of democratic norms and civil liberties: intimidation of communities, aggressive suppression of protest, racial profiling, abuse of executive power, and the erosion of constitutional protections. At the same time, powerful officials and corporate interests appear to be enriching themselves while ordinary Americans pay the price.

I need to know plainly: what are you and your colleagues doing right now to stop this?

Strong statements and symbolic opposition are not enough for the moment we are in. The Trump administration has repeatedly demonstrated that it will ignore legal and ethical boundaries. Continuing to “play by the rules” while those rules are being dismantled is not a viable strategy. This moment demands coordinated, visible, and aggressive oversight and accountability.

Specifically, are there active investigations into:

  • Alleged corruption and misconduct by senior officials such as Kristi Noem, Dan Bongino, Pete Hegseth, and Tom Homan

  • Potential market manipulation tied to tariff reversals that benefit government officials, Trump family members, and wealthy insiders.

  • Conflicts of interest involving government contracts and subsidies, including those connected to Elon Musk

  • Corporate consolidation and monopolistic practices, including the Paramount merger.

Most Americans feel abandoned by the responsible people in the room. All accountability has disappeared, corporate power expands, and civil rights violations go unanswered. Many of us want you to behave like the republicans – it is easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission. Do what you need to do now, then make corrective legislation AFTER you win the election.

I also want to know the plan beyond “wait for the next election.” With open discussion of invoking the Insurrection Act and efforts to undermine democratic processes, what safeguards are being actively pursued right now? Are there discussions with senior military leaders in the event of invoking the Insurrection Act? God, I hope so.

Finally, what can everyday citizens do beyond writing representatives, attending rallies, and volunteering for campaigns? Millions of Americans are ready to contribute professional skills, time, and resources — but there is no clear national call to action. This is a 5 Alarm fire. Leadership requires organizing that energy, not just acknowledging it.

We are paying attention. We are scared. And we need leadership that reflects the urgency of this moment.

I look forward to your response but please don’t send me a form letter – it is a waste of my time and your staff who must send those responses.

Sincerely,

Lauren Postyn
